Doug Backinger, senior vice president of solutions, engineering and innovation at Aerol, and Alex Harden, Aerol's technical product manager, joined Ground Support Worldwide editor Josh Smith to discuss best practices for specifying GSE components such as casters and running gear.

Backinger emphasized the importance of understanding the operational environment when designing ground support equipment (GSE). "You need to consider factors like load capacity, durability, and ease of maintenance," he said. Harden added that collaboration with end-users is crucial. "Getting feedback from those who use the equipment daily can provide insights that might not be apparent during the design phase," he noted.

The discussion also covered advancements in materials and technology that are shaping the future of GSE. Backinger highlighted the role of innovation in improving efficiency and safety. "We are constantly looking for ways to integrate new technologies that can enhance performance while reducing costs," he explained.

Harden pointed out that sustainability is becoming an increasingly important consideration. "As regulations around emissions tighten, we are focusing on developing eco-friendly solutions without compromising on quality or functionality," he stated.

Both experts agreed that a thorough understanding of customer needs and continuous improvement are key to successful GSE design. "It's about creating products that not only meet but exceed expectations," Backinger concluded.
