Lödige Benelux is currently equipping dnata's new cargo terminal at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol with fully automated storage technology. This project marks the culmination of a 50-year journey that began with the company's first project for KLM at Schiphol.

For five decades, the Lödige Industries subsidiary based in 's-Hertogenbosch has specialized in developing machines for efficiently moving heavy loads, not only in the air freight sector but also through automatic parking systems. Recently, these systems have been installed underground in Amsterdam's canal district to save space for up to 270 vehicles and relieve city centers of stationary traffic.

The company has also focused on goods lifts, installing around 2,500 over the past 50 years, averaging one lift per week for half a century. "We are engineers with a passion for moving heavy loads. There is a wide range of applications for our solutions, from logistic systems for airports, distribution centers and production facilities to automatic parking systems of all sizes and various lifting solutions for goods and people," said Arthur van Brink, managing director at Lödige Industries Benelux for ten years. "We are currently installing 80 projects a year and maintaining over 3,000 units in the Netherlands and Belgium."

Van Brink expressed gratitude on the occasion of their anniversary: "We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our customers, partners and more than 80 colleagues in the Netherlands and Belgium. Thanks to you and with you, we have been able to successfully realize so many projects, large and small, no matter how big the challenge."

Among these projects are two lorry lifts for Forum Rotterdam. Located in the city center, this solution handles frequent deliveries using two scissor lifts capable of lifting lorries weighing up to 50 tonnes to the unloading level of the building. "We also offer solutions for lifting loads of 100 tonnes or significantly more. For Tata Steel's steel production in IJmuiden, we developed a lift for a zinc pot that can handle up to 350 tonnes," added van Brink.

There is also significant demand for lifts with load capacities around 1.5 tonnes in hotels, hospitals, manufacturing facilities, and self-storage centers.

In air freight logistics, speed, flexibility, and efficiency are crucial for moving inbound and outbound goods safely through terminals. As a global market leader in airport logistics solutions, Lödige has equipped ten cargo buildings at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The newly built air freight terminal being equipped for dnata includes seven automated guided vehicles (AGVs) used to transport cargo containers automatically.

The company's automated parking technology has seen success with installations such as an underground system accommodating 270 vehicles in Amsterdam since 2023. Europe's largest system in Aarhus, Denmark was also developed by Lödige engineers and accommodates around 1,000 vehicles.

"Fifty years of experience is a strong foundation on which we want to build in future," stated van Brink. "Whether planning with BIM (Building Information Modeling), developing advanced automation technology and software or shifting car parking to space-saving underground systems - we are already setting tomorrow's standards today and working on solutions for the day after tomorrow."
