FAA and Long Beach Airport to host webinar on general aviation

Long Beach Airport (LGB) continues to collaborate with its regulatory and local partners to make progress on the seven recommendations outlined in the General Aviation Operations memorandum released on October 31, 2023. Furthermore, the memorandum dated March 15, 2024, provided an update on these core recommendations.

Regarding Recommendation Three—to Increase Community Outreach and GA Educational Materials—the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and LGB will co-host a public informational webinar on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Representatives from various FAA lines of business will be joined by LGB staff, along with members of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), and the Long Beach Airport Association (LBAA). Topics will include:

• FAA’s management of Southern California’s complex airspace;

• Runway usage at LGB;

• Flight school operations;

• LGB Noise Ordinance; and,

• Status of unleaded avgas and its usage at LGB and nationwide.

Webinar attendees may submit questions via the chat feature. The event will be recorded and available for later viewing on YouTube. No pre-registration is required. Final details and instructions for joining the webinar will be provided in advance of the event.

In addition, regarding Recommendation Two—to Review Increasing the Noise Ordinance Violation Fee Structure—the City Attorney's Office has submitted a request to the FAA for a legal opinion on a proposal to increase the fines for violations of the LGB Noise Ordinance.

Eleven civilian employees of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau (PRPB) have secured a favorable ruling in their federal class action lawsuit against both their employer and the Union of Organized Civilian Employees. The lawsuit accused these entities of illegally discriminating by removing an employer-provided health benefit from employees who chose not to join the union. These employees argued that this action violated their First Amendment rights to abstain from unwanted union affiliation, receiving legal support from National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation attorneys.
