Delta and United Airlines have suspended service to Tel Aviv amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, Hezbollah, and other Iranian-backed groups. This decision follows Israel's recent strike on Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh at his residence in Tehran.

United Airlines cancelled both of its Wednesday flights from Newark to Tel Aviv. The airline plans to evacuate all crew members from Tel Aviv on the second outbound flight.

"UA service to TLV is canceled until further notice and the situation is further evaluated. UA85 is en route TLV to EWR currently. UA91 will depart TLV tonight for EWR with all remaining crew still in TLV," tweeted JonNYC (@xJonNYC) on July 31, 2024.

Delta has also cancelled its flight, but it remains unclear when either carrier will resume services. Currently, United flights are listed as cancelled through August 7th, while Delta has cancelled today's and tomorrow’s flights. American Airlines has not resumed its own Tel Aviv service since halting operations following the October 7th incident in Israel.

Reports indicate that Iran has ordered a direct strike on Israel in retaliation for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

"The Supreme-Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei has ordered the Iranian Armed Forces to launch a Direct Strike against Israel, as Retaliation for last night’s Assassination of Hamas Chief Political Leader, Ismail Haniyeh in the City of Tehran," tweeted OSINTdefender (@sentdefender) on July 31, 2024.

Additionally, Israel targeted and killed Hezbollah’s senior military commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut. Shukr was responsible for an attack that killed 12 children playing soccer recently and was involved in the 1983 attack on U.S. Marines in Beirut that resulted in 241 American casualties. He had a $5 million reward posted by the United States as part of its terrorist most wanted list.
