As the Athletes' Village opens today, August 21, 2024, Air France, the official partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, will experience a peak in arrivals of Paralympic athletes on its flights today and tomorrow.

On August 21, nearly 300 athletes are expected to travel on Air France flights from cities including Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, and Santiago de Chile. On August 22, approximately 200 athletes will arrive from Nairobi, Bogota, and Manchester.

The first Paralympic delegations began arriving in Paris on August 12, with steady arrivals continuing since then. In total, Air France anticipates transporting 35% of the Paralympic athletes along with numerous representatives of disabled sport delegations, members of the Olympic family, and sports fans.

During the Olympics, Air France carried over 11,000 customers with Olympic accreditation. Similar to this pattern, arrivals for the Paralympics will continue throughout the Games. A peak number of departures is expected on September 9th, following the closing ceremony.

On August 21 and 22 alone, Air France expects to handle large volumes of sports equipment and more than 250 wheelchairs. Paralympic athletes typically travel with an average of two wheelchairs each—one for competition purposes.

All operational teams at Air France and SAPHIR—the airline’s special service dedicated to people with disabilities—have been fully mobilized for several months in preparation for these arrivals.
