Liebherr Aerospace has adopted the motto "transform. develop. sustain." to highlight its presence at the 2024 Farnborough Airshow and demonstrate how it addresses significant challenges facing the aviation industry.

The French family-run company asserts it invests “far above” the industry average in research and technology—including electrification, 3D printing, and hydrogen power—and “makes a significant contribution” to rendering air transport more environmentally friendly and efficient.

Liebherr designed several components of Boeing 777X's novel folding wingtip mechanism, such as the angle gearbox, the power drive unit, and numerous actuators. The moving mockup of the 777X's folding wingtip is on display at the Liebherr booth.

Liebherr’s display also highlights the additively manufactured housing of a secondary locking actuator. According to in-depth tests, the aviation-certified housing weighs less and performs equivalently to a conventionally manufactured component.

As part of its ongoing research and work on aircraft electrification, Liebherr is showcasing its electromechanical actuators and a hologram of its high-efficiency power pack.

Meanwhile, the company is working to use hydrogen technology to power non-propulsive systems with electricity from fuel cells while ensuring effective thermal management for fuel cells and electrified systems.

As aviation moves toward electrification, Liebherr has added small electromechanical actuators to its product portfolio. While the new concept specifically addresses the advanced air mobility sector, it is also essential for smaller aircraft, business jets, and helicopters.
