John Wayne Airport reports decline in July passenger traffic

John Wayne Airport has released its monthly statistics for July 2024, showing a decline in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year. The total number of passengers in July 2024 was 970,828, representing a 9.7% decrease from July 2023's figure of 1,075,535. Year-to-date figures also show a decline of 5.5%, with total passengers at 6,507,273 compared to 6,886,256 in the previous year.

Enplaned passengers in July totaled 480,403, down by 9.5% from last year's count of 530,664. Similarly, deplaned passengers saw a drop of 10%, totaling 490,425 compared to last year's figure of 544,871.

In contrast to the decline in passenger numbers, total aircraft operations increased by 22.8%, reaching a total of 29,981 operations compared to last year's figure of 24,421. General aviation operations saw a significant rise of 38.9%, with figures increasing from 15,564 in July last year to this year's count of 21,625.

Commercial aircraft operations decreased by 7%, while commuter and military operations showed increases of 20% and over double respectively.

Air cargo tonnage experienced a decrease as well; it fell by approximately14.7% from last year’s figure with current tonnage standing at1 ,250 tons for this month against1 ,466 tons previously reported . Year-to-date air cargo also dropped by about5 .4 % totaling9 ,584 tons compared with10 ,136 tons during same period previous year .

International statistics included within overall totals revealed that international passenger traffic decreased slightly by around3 .7 % totalling33 ,622 persons down from34 ,904 recorded same time previous year . Both enplaned & deplaned international passenger counts declined similarly whereas operational activities involving these flights reduced marginally too .

The report also highlighted current cargo tonnage figures for June2024 indicating all-cargo carriers handled1 ,159 tons while incidental belly cargo on passenger carriers amounted91tons
