United Airlines is set to expand its domestic network with the introduction of four new routes. The Chicago-based airline has announced plans to add flights from its hubs at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C.

The new services will include flights from Chicago to Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport in Colorado and Morgantown Municipal Airport in West Virginia, a United spokesperson confirmed. Additionally, United will offer flights from Dulles to Morgantown and South Bend International Airport in Indiana.

The expansion begins on December 3 with daily service from Dulles to South Bend, operated by United Express partner Republic Airways using an Embraer E175 regional jet. On December 13, daily service to Morgantown will commence, with SkyWest Airlines operating the route using a 50-seat CRJ-200 regional jet. SkyWest will also operate once-weekly Saturday flights from Chicago to Crested Butte starting February 15, 2025.

Morgantown is a new destination for United, supported partly by an Essential Air Service contract which provides government subsidies for operation. Despite this subsidy covering only five weekly flights, SkyWest plans daily service in the D.C. market.

This expansion offers travelers in smaller communities access to United's global network through one-stop connections at major hubs. It follows other recent adjustments by United, including adding flights to Dominica in the Caribbean. More international routes will be announced soon.

However, not all news is positive for United's operations. The airline has made some route cuts in its latest schedule update. Year-round flights from Chicago and Houston to Palm Springs and West Palm Beach have been reduced to seasonal winter service only. Plans to restart Houston-Boise and Houston-Hartford routes next year have also been removed from future schedules.

Affected passengers will be offered refunds or alternative accommodations on other United flights.
