Long Beach, CA – The Long Beach Airport's annual Festival of Flight is set to take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024. This year's event will mark the conclusion of the airport's yearlong centennial celebration.

"Festival of Flight is a rare chance to walk right onto the airfield and get an up-close look at Long Beach Airport,” stated Mayor Rex Richardson. He emphasized the significance of this event for his family and its importance as part of LGB’s centennial festivities.

The festival is free and open to all ages, with an estimated attendance of 15,000 people expected between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the west end of the airfield located at 3590 East Wardlow Road.

Fifth District Councilwoman Megan Kerr expressed her enthusiasm for welcoming the community to celebrate LGB’s rich history. “I'm thrilled to welcome the community to this celebration of our cherished 100-year-old Airport," she said.

Fourth District Councilman Daryl Supernaw highlighted the festival as a showcase of both Long Beach's historic airport and its unique community spirit. "This festival is a beloved tradition for many families," he remarked.

The event will feature static aircraft displays, children's activities, live music, food trucks, helicopter rides for purchase, and performances by various artists. Sponsored by the Port of Long Beach, attendees can expect to see aircraft such as a KC-46 Pegasus and a modified Lockheed L-1011 TriStar among others. The Condor Squadron will also conduct two flyovers during the event.

Initially launched in 2013 as Fly-In to commemorate LGB's 90th anniversary, Festival of Flight has become an annual tradition that highlights California’s oldest municipally owned airport.

“It’s an honor to host this beloved event at Long Beach Airport," commented Airport Director Cynthia Guidry regarding its role in celebrating aviation heritage.

Visitors are advised to prepare for outdoor conditions with appropriate attire and note that certain items like coolers will not be allowed inside. Parking details include free parking options near East Wardlow Road along with overflow parking facilitated by shuttle services from Kilroy Airport Way.

Further information about Long Beach Airport or updates on Festival of Flight can be accessed through social media channels or their official webpage.
