Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is currently advancing its infrastructure with the relocation of segments for the Midfield Satellite Concourse South Terminal. This development is part of a broader effort to modernize the airport, aiming to enhance service for millions of travelers each year.

The construction involves approximately 150,000 square feet and utilizes an innovative Offsite Construction and Relocation (OCR) technique. The project will feature eight Airplane Design Group III narrowbody gates and aims for LEED Silver certification.

The building segments are transported using two Mammoet Self-Propelled Modular Transporters. The design architect for this project is Woods Bagot Los Angeles, with Raw International as the associate architect. W.E. O'Neil Construction serves as both general contractor and construction manager.

Additional contributors include Buro Happold as structural engineer, Mott MacDonald / MA Engineering as civil engineers, Syska Hennessy Group handling mechanical and plumbing engineering, PBS Engineering managing electrical engineering, and Diaz Yourman & Associates providing geotechnical engineering services.

Swanson Rink oversees baggage handling, passenger boarding bridges, and fueling systems. TLC Engineering Solutions is responsible for IT, communications, and security. Selbert Perkins Design handles wayfinding while Buro Happold also contributes lighting design and acoustics expertise.

Site investigations and surveying are conducted by Pfeiler & Associates Engineers, Inc., with vertical transportation managed by Syska Hennessy Group. Jensen Hughes ensures code compliance and Schwab Engineering focuses on fire protection.

This initiative is part of LAX's multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program aimed at ensuring efficiency across its campus. Projects include an Automated People Mover and a Consolidated Rental Car facility.
