Icelandair and Southwest Airlines have announced a new partnership, marking Icelandair as the first airline partner of Southwest. This collaboration is set to commence in 2025, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two airlines. The agreement aims to facilitate seamless connectivity for passengers traveling across their networks.

The initial gateway for this partnership will be Baltimore (BWI), with plans to expand to additional destinations. Icelandair customers will gain access to numerous Southwest locations from these gateways, while Southwest travelers can explore Icelandair's extensive network that includes five airports in Iceland, four in Greenland, and 34 European destinations.

Bogi Nils Bogason, President and CEO of Icelandair, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are very excited to add Southwest to our impressive partnership portfolio and are honored to be chosen as their initial airline partner. The partnership will unlock many exciting travel options for our customers, and our extensive network in Europe will open for Southwest customers."

Ryan Green, Executive Vice President of Commercial Transformation at Southwest Airlines, highlighted the shared focus on hospitality: “Icelandair will become our initial partner through a shared focus on warm hospitality and value in air travel that both carriers strive to offer."

This collaboration is part of Icelandair's strategy to expand its global partnerships by aligning with airlines known for exceptional service. As they strengthen their route network with an increased emphasis on partnerships, Nashville has been added as a new destination within North America.
