Japanese budget airline Zipair is expanding its reach to the United States with a new route connecting Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to Tokyo's Narita International Airport (NRT). Starting March 4, 2025, the airline will operate four weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The route will be serviced by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner equipped with 18 lie-flat business-class pods and 272 standard economy seats. In an effort to attract travelers, Zipair is offering an introductory fare sale with round-trip tickets available for as low as $666, or $333 each way. Bookings must be made by November 30 to take advantage of this offer.

Zipair charges additional fees for services such as inflight meals, checked baggage, and seat selection. Despite these extra costs, the overall price could still be lower than flying with major carriers like All Nippon Airways or United Airlines.

For those interested in business class, Zipair offers lie-flat beds at competitive rates starting just under $1,500 each way. However, passengers should note that ancillaries are not included in the ticket price. The aircraft does not feature individual TVs but provides free Wi-Fi.

The new Houston-Tokyo service marks Zipair's fifth transpacific route. The airline already operates flights to Los Angeles; San Francisco; San Jose, California; and Vancouver, British Columbia. The Houston flight departs at 8:45 a.m., arriving in Tokyo at 1:50 p.m. the next day local time. The return flight leaves Tokyo at 10 a.m., landing in Houston at 6:45 a.m. on the same day.

Zipair is a subsidiary of Japan Airlines and aims to compete with ANA and United on this long-haul route of 6,643 miles. As part of the Oneworld alliance through its parent company Japan Airlines, Zipair presents itself as an affordable option for travel between Houston and Tokyo.
