On Wednesday, October 9, Amazon's Air Hub in Hebron, Kentucky, welcomed nine children and their families from Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana for a day filled with aviation-themed fun and surprises.

The event, designed to raise awareness for childhood critical illnesses, allowed children who share a passion for aviation to become honorary pilots for the day. In addition to hands-on participation with aircraft and robotics, the kids received a VIP campus tour showcasing Amazon’s advanced aviation and technology systems.

The day’s activities also included a grand arrival, with a red carpet where Amazon associates met and spoke with the children. The families received Amazon SWAG and gift baskets.

Stephanie McCormick, President & CEO of Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana attended the event. “This has never happened before for us. So our wish kids are getting an experience of a lifetime,” McCormick said, according to Spectrum News. “It’s definitely a boost, not just for them, but their siblings and their family. For a moment in time, they’re not that sick, little kid.”

As a highlight of the event, Amazon Air Hub Assistant General Manager Lacey Rodriguez presented a $50,000 donation to Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana to support their mission of granting life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses.

KCVG Operations Manager Erick Petersen spoke about his daughter Eleanor as a Make-A-Wish dad himself: “She wasn’t expected to live past probably her first month or two of life. But she’s going on four now, so we’re really proud of her. She’s kind of writing her own story,” Petersen said, according to Spectrum News. “It’s an amazing experience. It is close to my heart. It’s all about building as many memories as possible. And just having opportunities they may not have later on.”

Amazon's partnership with Make-A-Wish is part of the company’s broader efforts to give back to the community.
