Delta Air Lines recently conducted its annual "Breast Cancer One" flight, marking the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This event brought together 150 employees who have either survived or are currently battling breast cancer. The initiative is part of Delta's long-standing partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), which has been ongoing for 19 years.

The flight departed from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta to San Diego, amidst a vibrant celebration at the gate. Hundreds gathered for an event featuring dancing, giveaways, and speeches from Delta and BCRF leaders. Donna McKay, President and CEO of BCRF, praised Delta's commitment to breast cancer awareness: “Delta has made breast cancer awareness and research a part of who you are, a part of your company's culture — and that's really special.”

Captain Deborah Johnson piloted this year's charter flight, celebrating her own journey as she remains in remission ten years after her diagnosis. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity: “It’s full circle that 10 years after my diagnosis, I'm still in remission and I get to fly this flight.”

The Boeing 767-400ER aircraft used for the flight featured a special pink ribbon livery symbolizing support for breast cancer research. Onboard festivities included shared stories among survivors and supporters. Flight attendant Barner Golumbfskie-Jones emphasized community support: “We have to advocate for each other, we have to support each other, we have to thrive together.”

In San Diego, Team San Diego welcomed participants with a pink carpet reception complete with music and cheerleaders before continuing celebrations at their hotel.

Over nearly two decades, Delta has contributed $28 million to BCRF efforts. Throughout October, proceeds from select onboard purchases will be donated to BCRF as part of Delta's ongoing fundraising activities.

Founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993, BCRF is recognized as the largest private funder of breast cancer research globally.
