The Jackson County Airport Authority has approved a $7 million project for Mississippi's Trent Lott International Airport as part of a long-term growth plan. The project will add 15,000 square yards of apron space for aircraft hangar development and 2,700 square yards of connector taxiway to enhance access to the existing parallel taxiway.

Airport director Cinnamon Snyder informed AIN that the expansion aims not only to increase ramp parking but also to attract an MRO provider for maintenance capacity at the airport. Construction is set to begin in early 2025 with completion anticipated by 2026.

The development was planned with input from the airport’s advisory committee, which includes representatives from the county’s economic development foundation and board of supervisors, along with Southern Sky Aviation, the sole FBO on site. Funding will come from FAA AIP grants, the airport itself, Mississippi DOT’s Strategic Multi-modal Investments Fund, and additional support through the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economies of the Gulf Coast States Act.

“Trent Lott International Airport has long been a tremendous asset, aligning well with our strong industrial and defense infrastructure,” said George Freeland, executive director of the Jackson County Economic Development Foundation. “We…look forward to seeing the return on these investments."
