Between September 20 and 23, 2024, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Council and Secretary General's Symposium took place in New York, USA. Zhao Dong, Chairman and Party Secretary of Xiamen Airlines, participated as the sole Chinese director alongside 24 other directors, including UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and UNGC Director General Sanda Ojiambo. During the event, Zhao Dong highlighted China's strategic vision and achievements on issues like "national network construction" and "China-Africa cooperation." He also shared insights into Xiamen Airlines' sustainable development efforts with Secretary General Guterres.

Council members discussed the governance of the national network of UNGC. Zhao Dong suggested that developing these networks should align with each country's unique conditions. He emphasized adapting to local circumstances, commercial operations, and win-win cooperation to promote business for good. Additionally, he spoke about challenges faced by Chinese enterprises and his commitment to strengthening their connection with the UNGC.

The focus on "Promoting South-South cooperation through sustainable development cooperation between Chinese and African enterprises" is central to the UNGC's strategy involving China. Zhao Dong discussed the aid model of Chinese enterprises in Africa, highlighting investment-driven aid initiatives that foster local talent development through technical education.

On September 23, during New York Climate Week, the UNGC hosted the Green Value CEO Roundtable Forum. More than 30 enterprise representatives from eight countries attended discussions on climate change issues. Zhao Dong delivered an opening speech at this event. Attendees included Melissa Powell, Deputy Director General of the UNGC, Narmin Jalcharova from Azerbaijan for COP29 of the UNFCCC, among others.
