IHG is offering a buy points promotion through November 16, where members can purchase points with up to a 100% bonus. The offer varies for different users, with some receiving a 60% bonus and others up to 100%. Ben Smithson, a senior writer at TPG, confirmed being targeted for the full 100% bonus.

The maximum number of IHG points one can purchase annually is capped at 200,000. During this promotion, purchasing the maximum would cost $2,000 but result in a total of 400,000 points if eligible for the 100% bonus. To get the best rate per point, it's recommended to buy at least 26,000 points due to volume discounts.

Point purchases are nonrefundable and may take up to three days to reflect in accounts. Purchases can be made on IHG's website after logging in. This promotion allows members who typically redeem IHG points for more than 0.5 cents each to consider buying during this sale.

The fourth-night-free reward perk available through certain IHG credit cards adds value by allowing users to pay no points for every fourth night on bookings of four nights or more. However, potential buyers should note that IHG employs dynamic award pricing which might change without notice.

Aside from buying points, other ways to earn include signing up for an IHG credit card or transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards Points to IHG One Rewards. However, these transfers may not always provide the best value compared to other options.

Purchasing points during this promotion does not count as travel spending and will not earn travel category bonuses on credit cards unless bought at full price outside of promotional periods.

Overall, those considering upcoming trips might find this an opportune moment to increase their IHG point balance while acknowledging the risks associated with dynamic pricing changes.
