Southwest Airlines is currently offering a new promotion for its personal credit card users. Through December 16, applicants can earn 40,000 bonus Rapid Rewards points and a $400 statement credit after spending $3,000 within the first four months of opening an account. This offer marks a notable opportunity for Southwest loyalists to accumulate points towards travel.

The value of this entire bonus is estimated at up to $960 according to TPG's November 2024 valuations. Compared to regular offers valued at $700 and peak offers just over $1,100, this current promotion presents an attractive option for those interested in Southwest's services. Additionally, the flexibility of the $400 statement credit allows it to be used on any purchase without restriction to Southwest flights.

Moreover, the two business cards from Southwest offer a chance to earn up to 80,000 bonus points with current welcome offers. These points can contribute towards earning a Companion Pass. Timing the spending so that bonuses are posted in early 2025 could extend the validity of the Companion Pass through 2026.

For beginners and infrequent travelers, the Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus Credit Card comes with an annual fee of $69 and includes benefits like two EarlyBird check-ins annually and 3,000 anniversary points. Regular flyers might consider the Premier Credit Card with a $99 annual fee or the Priority Credit Card with perks such as unlimited Tier Qualifying Points (TQP) earning.

Business owners who frequently fly with Southwest may find value in either the Premier Business Credit Card or Performance Business Credit Card. Both offer various earning rates and additional benefits like upgraded boardings per year or credits for Global Entry/TSA PreCheck.

Southwest’s Rapid Rewards program remains popular due to its straightforward approach where point requirements align directly with fare prices. The airline also provides advantages like no cancellation fees and free checked bags which appeal to many travelers.

To maximize potential rewards from these offers, including nearly two years of buy-one-get-one flights through a Companion Pass, prospective cardholders should consider strategic timing when applying for these cards.
