Paul Goulter LLB, MA (Hons) Independent Non-Executive Director (Appointed 28 October 2021) | Air New Zealand

Air New Zealand and Cathay Pacific have received approval from the New Zealand government to extend their partnership, enabling continued enhanced travel options and connectivity between New Zealand and Hong Kong. This extension provides access to a broader global network.

The alliance, which began in 2013, has significantly contributed to increasing capacity and tourism between the two regions. It includes up to three daily services during peak seasons, offering passengers more choices while boosting tourism and trade.

Michael Williams, Air New Zealand's Chief Transformation and Alliances Officer, highlighted the importance of this partnership in connecting New Zealand with Asia and beyond. "Together, we have built a robust network that not only connects New Zealanders to destinations around the world, including Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, but also ensures convenient access for global travellers to explore New Zealand's regions via Hong Kong," he stated.

Williams further noted that the re-authorisation of this alliance is crucial for providing better connectivity as both markets recover from the pandemic.

Frosti Lau, Regional General Manager Southwest Pacific at Cathay Pacific, shared similar views: "We have continued to increase our frequency in New Zealand and are proud to work with Air New Zealand to bring greater choices to both the local market as well as Hong Kong and the surrounding region."

Lau emphasized Hong Kong's role as a diverse destination and gateway for connecting New Zealanders with other cities in the Greater Bay Area. He remarked that through this alliance, travel for business or leisure becomes seamless across both airlines.

During peak months, Air New Zealand and Cathay Pacific will operate 18 weekly return services between New Zealand and Hong Kong. This includes Cathay Pacific's four-weekly seasonal service between Christchurch and Hong Kong from October 30, 2024, to March 29, 2025.
