Iberia has introduced its new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, following familiarization flights across Europe. The Spanish airline plans to deploy the aircraft on medium long-haul routes, including flights to Boston Logan International Airport. The cabin is designed to accommodate 182 passengers, with 168 in economy class and 14 in business class.

The A321XLR features Airbus' Space-Flex cabin design, which reduces galley space by half and shares it with two lavatories. This design choice presents a challenge for flight attendants who will need to manage meal preparations in a smaller area than usual.

Last month, Iberia received its first A321XLR, aiming to expand its network offerings with this longer-range model. The aircraft includes VantageSOLO seats from Thompson Aero Seating and XL overhead bins for increased carry-on capacity. The A321XLR completed its inaugural commercial flight from Madrid–Barajas Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle.

Narrowbody aircraft like the A321LR and XLR are becoming popular for longer flights. Iberia joins other airlines such as IndiGo, American Airlines, United Airlines, Wizz Air, Qantas, Air Canada, and Air Arabia in ordering these models. IndiGo's CEO Peter Elbers stated that "the XLRs will increase our operations to various destinations in Europe and Asia."
