Boeing has delivered the seventh and eighth O3b mPOWER satellites to SES, marking a significant step in their ongoing collaboration. These satellites, equipped with Boeing's advanced software-defined communications payload, are on their way to Cape Canaveral for a scheduled launch in December.

Michelle Parker, vice president of Boeing Space Mission Systems, commented on the partnership: “We’ve worked closely with SES from the start of this program, and we moved with pace to manufacture the latest pair of satellites. We look forward to seeing the satellites enter service and continue to impress SES users.”

The O3b mPOWER satellites incorporate Boeing’s innovative software-driven integrated payload array technology. This provides adaptable connectivity and high-frequency re-use, which measures efficiency.

Milton Torres, CTO of SES, expressed enthusiasm about expanding their operational capabilities: “With our O3b mPOWER system now operational, we are excited to bring these two additional satellites into orbit and bolster our constellation to continue delivering the high quality connectivity services required by our customers. We’re proud of the work carried by our SES team, along with Boeing and other technology partners across space and ground segments, to bring the unique capabilities of our O3b mPOWER system online.”

These satellites can generate over 5,000 fully steerable beams. This feature offers flexibility for SES to allocate bandwidth and power dynamically according to regional or customer needs. The enhanced capability ensures fast internet access for users on land, at sea, or in air for activities like video streaming or remote work.

Boeing is continuing its production efforts on remaining O3b mPOWER satellites with plans for further deliveries in early 2025.
