Holland America Line has unveiled a new Alaska itinerary that promises an extended journey to less-visited destinations. The 18-night "Great Bear Rainforest and Alaskan Explorer" voyage will commence on September 16, 2026, from Vancouver, British Columbia.

The itinerary includes stops at small towns like Homer and Valdez in Alaska, which are rarely visited by cruise ships due to their remote locations. Homer is known as the halibut capital of the world, while Valdez is surrounded by mountains. Kodiak Island, famous for its large population of Kodiak bears, is also on the schedule.

An overnight stop in Anchorage is part of the plan, a city seldom included in typical Alaska cruises because of its distance through Cook Inlet. The voyage will be conducted on the Zaandam ship with a capacity of 1,432 passengers.

Other stops include Wrangell and more common destinations such as Sitka, Juneau, and Ketchikan. The trip will feature visits to Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve and Hubbard Glacier.

A highlight of the journey will be two days spent navigating narrow channels along British Columbia's western edge, including Grenville Channel and Seymour Narrows. These channels were once part of the "Inside Passage" but have been bypassed by larger cruise vessels over time.

On its return to Vancouver, Zaandam will stop at Prince Rupert for excursions into the Great Bear Rainforest. This route was historically used during the gold rush era but has since been overshadowed by faster ocean routes.

This new itinerary follows Holland America's trend of offering voyages with extended time in the Great Bear Rainforest region. Fares start at $3,029 per person and more details can be found on Holland America's website.
