The Airbus A321neo, introduced in 2017 with Virgin America, is a prominent narrowbody aircraft used by several U.S. airlines. It is particularly favored for its efficiency on transcontinental routes due to its extended range and reduced fuel consumption. The aircraft's engines, either Pratt & Whitney PW1100G or CFM International LEAP 1A, contribute significantly to these capabilities.

American Airlines leads in operating the A321neo within the U.S., with 82 aircraft in service. "Fort Worth-based legacy carrier American Airlines is the nation's largest operator of the Airbus A321neo," noted a source. The airline uses this model extensively on cross-country and Latin American routes.

Delta Air Lines follows with 67 A321neos, serving a vast transcontinental network from hubs like Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson and New York's JFK. Delta's fleet includes various configurations catering to different market demands.

Frontier Airlines, a low-cost carrier based in Denver, operates 39 A321neos. The airline leverages the jet's high capacity and fuel efficiency for longer point-to-point routes to leisure destinations in Latin America.

Spirit Airlines has 91 A321neos but recently filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection, raising questions about its future operations. All Spirit's units feature a single-class configuration with 176 seats.

United Airlines rounds out the top five with 21 A321neos, primarily serving its transcontinental network from hubs like Newark Liberty and San Francisco International Airports. United anticipates expanding its fleet with the upcoming Airbus A321XLRs to replace older Boeing models.

These airlines' reliance on the Airbus A321neo underscores its role as a key asset in meeting diverse route demands across their networks.
