Gulfstream Aerospace's latest ultralong-range business jet, the Gulfstream G800, is nearing its market debut. The aircraft, designed for efficiency and comfort, aims to serve business travelers requiring long-distance travel without sacrificing luxury or performance.

Unveiled in October 2021 alongside the G400, the G800 represents a new era for Gulfstream in terms of range and performance. It builds on the success of its predecessor, the Gulfstream G650, and incorporates technologies from the Gulfstream G700. "The Gulfstream G800 is part of Gulfstream’s strategy to push the limits of what a business jet can achieve," according to company statements.

The G800 boasts an impressive range of 8,000 nautical miles and a maximum speed of Mach 0.925. Its development highlights include new Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines designed specifically for enhanced fuel efficiency and performance.

The aircraft first took flight on June 29, 2022. This milestone initiated an intensive flight-testing program aimed at pushing the aircraft to its limits. The successful first flight demonstrated that "the G800 was on track to meet its ambitious performance goals."

Following this achievement, the aircraft completed its first international flight from Savannah to Zurich on July 16, 2022. This test highlighted its ability to connect global cities efficiently.

Key certifications have been obtained during development: EASA certified the Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines on September 20, 2022; FAA certification followed on September 9, 2023. These certifications are crucial as they confirm compliance with safety standards required for operation in Europe and the U.S.

The G800 made its continental debut at EBACE2023 in Geneva on May 21, showcasing advanced technologies like its Symmetry Flight Deck with active control sidesticks and touchscreen controls.

With these milestones achieved, Gulfstream anticipates that "the aircraft will enter service in the second half of 2025," according to Aviation Week. The G800 is expected to compete with other ultralong-range jets such as Bombardier Global 8000 and Dassault Falcon 10X but stands out due to advanced technology and passenger comfort features.
