Winair, the flag carrier of Sint Maarten, is renewing its codeshare agreement with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. This partnership aims to enhance connectivity across the Dutch Caribbean by allowing passengers to seamlessly connect through Winair's hub at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM).

Under this renewed collaboration, travelers from Amsterdam and other intercontinental destinations served by KLM can now book flights to several Caribbean islands on a single ticket. Destinations include St. Barth, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts, Nevis, and Tortola. Passengers will benefit from the convenience of checking in with either airline and having their luggage transferred directly to their final destination.

Hans van de Velde, CEO of Winair, expressed his enthusiasm for the renewed partnership: “This collaboration with KLM, one of the world’s top airlines, reflects the trust they have in Winair’s safety, reliability, and service.” He added that they are proud to offer customers increased convenience and connectivity.

KLM currently operates an Airbus A330-200 on its route from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) to Sint Maarten. The airport serves as a crucial travel hub in the northeastern Caribbean region.

Princess Juliana International Airport recently completed renovations after suffering severe damage during Hurricane Irma in 2017. The improvements included new arrivals and departures halls and automatic border control kiosks. Van de Velde noted that these upgrades have significantly enhanced passenger experience: "I have to be impressed. It's clearly the most modern airport in the region now."

The airport is also known for Maho Beach or 'Airplane Beach,' popular among plane enthusiasts due to its proximity to the runway.

Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands attended a grand reopening ceremony celebrating the airport's recovery from Hurricane Irma.
