The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has lifted its ban on flights from the United States to northern Haiti. This decision comes after a previous suspension of all flights to the Caribbean nation following three incidents where US commercial aircraft were hit by gunfire.

Flights are now permitted to six airports in northern Haiti, although the ban remains in effect for Port-au-Prince's main airport. The affected airports include Port-de-Paix, Cap-Haitien, Pignon, Jeremie, Antoine-Simon, and Jacmel.

The FAA imposed the original flight ban on November 12 after several US-registered commercial planes were struck by bullets. Notably, a Spirit Airlines Airbus A320neo flying from Fort Lauderdale was targeted as it approached Port-au-Prince. This incident resulted in an injury to a flight attendant and multiple bullet holes discovered on the aircraft. Consequently, Spirit Airlines suspended its services to Port-au-Prince.

Similarly, American Airlines halted its Miami-Port-au-Prince route after one of its Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft was found with bullet damage during a post-flight inspection. An airline representative stated that "out of an abundance of caution," all flights on this route were canceled for three months while investigations continue.

JetBlue also reported an incident involving gunfire impacting one of their planes operating Flight 935 from Haiti to New York; however, the plane landed safely without issues.

As the FAA eases restrictions on some Haitian airports, it is uncertain when US airlines will resume full services to Haiti.
