Allegiant Air, founded in 1997, is a low-cost leisure carrier that has expanded its network to over 120 destinations. Although it primarily operates within the United States, it holds approval for charter flights to Canada and Mexico.
In January 2022, Allegiant placed an order for up to 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This marked a shift from being an all-Airbus operator and made Allegiant the first in North America to operate the high-density version of the MAX 8. Maurice Gallagher, Allegiant’s CEO, commented on this decision: "Our approach to the fleet has always been opportunistic, and this exciting transaction with Boeing is no exception."
By October 2023, Allegiant modified its order by adding options for 30 more planes and changing orders for six MAX 7s to MAX 8-200s. The airline received its first MAX delivery in September with aircraft N811NV entering service on October 20 from Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP).
