dnata, a prominent air and travel services provider, has become the first ground handler in Europe to achieve the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) environmental management certification. This recognition underscores dnata's commitment to sustainability initiatives.

The IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) is a certification program that evaluates the environmental and sustainability performance of aviation stakeholders. The assessment rigorously reviewed dnata's operations at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

Jan van Anrooy, Managing Director of dnata Netherlands, expressed pride in this achievement: “We are proud to be the first ground handler to earn the prestigious IEnvA certification in Europe. This accomplishment reflects our team’s dedication to environmental efficiency and our consistent efforts to contribute to dnata’s global decarbonisation journey."

Rafael Schvartzman, Regional Vice President Europe at IATA, commented on dnata's milestone: “We congratulate dnata Netherlands on becoming the first ground and cargo handler in Europe to achieve full IEnvA registration. This significant milestone demonstrates dnata Schiphol’s commitment to sustainable aviation and environmental excellence."

In recent years, dnata Netherlands has invested heavily in electrifying its ground handling fleet. Currently, over 70% of its equipment operates on electricity or solar energy, with others using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil biofuel.

dnata's new facility, Cargo City Amsterdam, scheduled for opening in 2025, will feature solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations among other sustainable features.

Globally, dnata reported improvements across key environmental metrics for 2023-24. The company reduced carbon intensity by over 8%, 22%, and 26% across airport operations, travel, and catering businesses respectively. These results have been validated by Verifavia.

Apart from The Netherlands, dnata also achieved IEnvA certification for its operations in the United Arab Emirates.
