LEVEL, a long-haul low-cost airline operating under Iberia's designator code, is preparing to become an independent carrier within the International Airlines Group (IAG). The airline plans to manage its own network, including destinations and frequencies. LEVEL's chief executive has hinted at increasing flights to the United States.

In an interview with El Economista, Rafael Jiménez Hoyos, CEO of LEVEL, stated that the airline currently operates seven routes from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), including five US cities. Although no new routes are planned until 2026, LEVEL aims to increase flight frequencies to the US as it prepares for the arrival of its seventh Airbus A330-200.

Ch-aviation data indicates that alongside six existing A330-200s, another aircraft of this type will soon join LEVEL's fleet. Originally delivered to Virgin Australia in June 2012, this aircraft has been stored since March 2020 after Virgin Australia ended its long-haul operations during restructuring. Registered as EC-OHY, it was moved to Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) in August after arriving from Istanbul Atatürk Airport (ISL).

Hoyos took over as CEO on October 1 following Fernando Candela's retirement. IAG announced Hoyos' appointment on September 12 as part of an ambitious growth plan for LEVEL, which includes receiving additional A330-200 aircraft and obtaining its air operator’s certificate (AOC). Hoyos mentioned that the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency is expected to grant LEVEL its AOC shortly.

IAG has increased capacity on flights from Barcelona-El Prat to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Additionally, LEVEL began flying to Miami International Airport (MIA) and approached nearly one million seats in 2023, doubling its figure compared to 2019. "As a result," according to IAG, "LEVEL is...the leading long-haul operator at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport."

Data from Cirium shows that American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines also have scheduled flights between Barcelona and the US. The market is expected to grow slightly in June 2025 compared to June 2024 during the peak summer season in the Northern Hemisphere. Despite this growth, there will be no new direct services from additional US cities to Barcelona-El Prat.

Delta Air Lines plans a new route from Boston during the upcoming summer season. In June 2025, LEVEL will continue serving the Boston-Barcelona route with daily flights.
