FedEx has announced the completion of a new €30 million building at its Roissy-Charles de Gaulle hub, marking the 25th anniversary of the facility. The building is dedicated to handling heavyweight freight over 68 kilograms and will be fully operational in 2025. This investment aims to enhance FedEx's network efficiency and improve service quality for businesses shipping heavy goods within Europe and internationally.

The infrastructure project involves refurbishing an existing complex into a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to heavy cargo operations, in partnership with Groupe ADP (Aéroports de Paris). Spanning 22,200 square meters, it will feature advanced equipment such as scanners and mobile weight measurement systems. The site will also implement energy-saving measures through LED lighting.

Julien Ducoup, Vice President of Hub Operations at FedEx France, stated: “We are delighted to announce this further enhancement to our operations with the addition of a dedicated freight building to our historic Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle site on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.” He added that this development would strengthen their sorting capabilities amidst opportunities in deferred parcel and freight markets.

Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle serves as FedEx's main European hub and ranks as the company's second-largest site globally after Memphis, Tennessee. The facility employs most of FedEx’s workforce in the Paris region—4,000 out of 5,500 team members—and processes up to 68,000 parcels per hour. It aligns with FedEx's goal for carbon-neutral operations by 2040 through vehicle electrification and solar panel investments.

Over its 25-year presence at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle since its inception in 1999, FedEx has invested over €600 million into the site's infrastructure covering a total area of 72,000 square meters. The company follows an inclusive hiring policy that emphasizes behavioral skills over other criteria. In recognition of its economic impact, FedEx received Business France’s "Talent and Training of the Future" award last year.

FedEx contributes approximately €1.8 billion annually to the Paris region economy according to a study conducted in 2023. The end-of-year holiday season is particularly significant for exporting businesses in France as it accounts for around 30% of total order volume during this period.

To adapt to market changes driven by external dynamics throughout the year—such as volume fluctuations—FedEx has adopted a new strategic approach toward managing its air network model globally. This involves three sections: purple (highest priority shipments), orange (cargo shipments sorted outside priority windows), and white (deferred parcels using global airline partners).

The CDG hub plays an essential role within this framework by ensuring efficient connectivity across different networks while providing flexibility needed by businesses across France Europe globally
