Vancouver International Airport is set to introduce several new transborder routes. Air Canada announced three new routes from Vancouver to the United States for the upcoming summer season, including Nashville, Tampa, and Raleigh, North Carolina. Service to Nashville will start on May 1, 2025, operating four times a week until October 30, 2025. Flights to Tampa begin on June 3, 2025, with operations two days a week year-round. The Raleigh service will operate three times a week from June 4, 2025, through September 29, 2025.

In addition to these new routes, Air Canada is increasing flight frequencies on existing routes from Vancouver to Austin, Denver, and Miami. Mark Galardo of Air Canada stated: "Air Canada continues to reinforce its position as the leading carrier between Canada and the US with new flights to fast-growing metropolitan areas and sought out destinations."

Meanwhile, WestJet also announced expansion plans in Vancouver with a new route to Austin starting May 11, 2025. This service will operate three times weekly. WestJet had already unveiled plans for routes to Boston and Tampa for the same season.

Both airlines are responding to increased demand for travel between western Canada and the U.S., while also potentially seeking to maintain market share against competitors. While WestJet has not announced services from Vancouver to Nashville or Raleigh yet, it has introduced flights from Calgary to Raleigh.

This expansion aims not only at providing more options for travelers but also at enhancing connections beyond Vancouver across Air Canada's international network in the Asia-Pacific region. As Galardo noted: "At Air Canada's Pacific gateway, our newest services further bolster our sixth-freedom strategy by efficiently bridging North America and growing international destinations across the Asia-Pacific region."
