The Diamond DA50 RG, a single-engine composite aircraft by Austrian manufacturer Diamond Aircraft Industries, has been operational since 2007. It received its European certification in 2020 and US certification in 2023. Despite the lengthy development process, the aircraft distinguishes itself from competitors like Cirrus and Cessna with several notable features.

The DA50 RG employs all-composite construction, a method increasingly common in aviation for reducing weight and enhancing performance. Composites offer advantages over traditional materials like aluminum by being lighter and more resistant to wear.

This aircraft also boasts advanced avionics systems, including a Garmin G1000 NXi Avionics suite with high-definition displays, full autopilot controls, and an Electronic Stability and Protection (ESP) system as standard. Optional features include an on-board oxygen system, electric-powered air conditioning, and TKS de-icing system.

A unique aspect of the DA50 RG is its retractable landing gear—a feature not commonly found in smaller general aviation aircraft. While it enhances aerodynamics and performance, it may lead to higher maintenance costs.

Efficiency is another highlight of the DA50 RG. Powered by a Continental Aerospace Technologies CD-300 engine using Jet A1 fuel, it claims better fuel economy compared to similar aircraft. Its composite construction further aids efficiency without compromising performance.

The cabin design is one of the largest in its class, providing ample space for passengers and luggage. The interior dimensions reflect this spaciousness: a maximum height of 128 cm and seat width of 129 cm. This design has garnered several awards including the iF DESIGN AWARD 2021 and German Design Award 2023.

Despite slow development since its inception in 2007—partly due to focus on other projects—Diamond Aircraft continues to explore new variants of the DA50 model. Potential developments include versions with pressurized cabins or different seating capacities.
