TAP Air Portugal has announced the addition of three new routes to its US network, marking a significant expansion for the airline. The new routes include Lisbon-Los Angeles, Lisbon-Terceira-San Francisco, and Porto-Boston. This brings TAP's total number of US routes to 11 for the summer of 2025, involving three Portuguese airports and eight US airports.

The Lisbon-Los Angeles route will commence on May 16 with three weekly flights, increasing to four by the end of May. This marks TAP's return to Los Angeles after last serving it in 1990 via Terceira. "Lisbon-Los Angeles has 79,000 point-to-point passengers and all the potential connections over the Portuguese hub," according to TAP.

Porto-Boston flights will begin on May 14 with four weekly services using an A321LR aircraft. This route was previously served by Azores Airlines in 2024 but is not scheduled for summer 2025.

Additionally, Lisbon-Terceira-San Francisco will start on June 3 with weekly flights operated by an A330neo. This becomes TAP's longest route overall when combining nonstop and one-stop services.

Changes in other long-haul schedules have been made due to slot restrictions at Lisbon airport. For example, Lisbon-San Francisco will reduce from daily to four times weekly next summer.

The airline's expanded network aims to capture both point-to-point traffic and connecting passengers through its hub in Lisbon. TAP's San Francisco service already sees over 60,000 connecting passengers annually, primarily traveling between Spain, Italy, France, and the United States.
