Avelo Airlines, based in Houston, is continuing its expansion into Connecticut as it enters 2025. The ultra-low-cost carrier announced plans to add four new U.S. airports to its route map early next year.

Between February and May 2025, Avelo will begin service from two major hub airports, a key city in Florida, and a popular destination in New England. These routes will originate from Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN), which has become a significant growth hub for the airline.

Additionally, Avelo is expanding its international presence with nonstop service from Hartford to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. This announcement follows closely after the carrier revealed plans to serve this Caribbean destination from North Carolina.

In total, Avelo's expansion involves five new routes from Connecticut. "We love Connecticut and are excited to continue expanding our presence here," said Avelo CEO Andrew Levy in a statement.

The five new nonstop routes launching during the first half of 2025 include:

- HVN to Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) starting February 14 with twice-weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays.

- HVN to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) starting March 7 with twice-weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays.

- HVN to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) beginning April 4 as a seasonal route with twice-weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays.

- HVN to Portland International Jetport (PMW) in Maine beginning May 22 as a seasonal route with twice-weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays.

- Hartford's Bradley International Airport (BDL) to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) starting February 21 as a seasonal route with twice-weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays.

These destinations—DFW, Detroit, Jacksonville, and Portland—are all new additions for Avelo since it began operations in spring 2021. DFW serves as the home base for American Airlines, while Detroit is a core hub for Delta Air Lines. However, Avelo will face no direct competition on these routes from New Haven.

This latest expansion increases Avelo's reach from New Haven to 39 nonstop destinations. On the international front, by next spring, Avelo will operate five international nonstop routes including three from Hartford: Punta Cana, Cancun International Airport (CUN), and Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Avelo also recently announced plans for services to Punta Cana and Montego Bay from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).
