The capital of Japan, Tokyo, is accessible via two major international airports: Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) and Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT). These airports connect to various U.S. destinations through a range of airlines belonging to the three major airline alliances.

Japan Airlines (JAL), a member of the oneworld Alliance, operates flights from Haneda to six U.S. cities. "Two of the airline's links are twice-daily operations," with New York JFK and Honolulu receiving multiple flights daily this month. Other destinations include Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, and San Francisco with daily services.

From Narita, JAL flies to seven U.S. gateways in December. Daily flights are available to Honolulu, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Additionally, Seattle-Tacoma has a daily link feeding traffic across Alaska Airlines' network as part of the oneworld partnership. Boston and Guam also have daily routes from Narita.

American Airlines offers an extensive route network centered on Tokyo-Haneda with three direct routes including a double-daily service from Los Angeles and daily Dreamliner services from Dallas/Fort Worth and New York JFK.

Delta Air Lines is the sole SkyTeam Alliance carrier flying between Tokyo and the United States this year with all flights arriving at Haneda. Delta operates from six U.S. hub airports offering over 52,000 seats each way this month but has not added new Japanese connections recently.

All Nippon Airways (ANA), part of Star Alliance, connects both Tokyo airports with eight routes from Haneda and four from Narita including twice-daily flights to New York JFK and Los Angeles.

United Airlines maintains a significant presence in Japan operating out of both Tokyo airports connecting them to several U.S. gateways such as Chicago, Guam, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco among others.

ZIPAIR is one of the newest entrants serving three California destinations: Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco from Narita International Airport.

Hawaiian Airlines connects Honolulu to both Narita and Haneda airports along with Osaka-Kansai International Airport and Fukuoka Airport in Kyushu but is not yet part of any alliance group despite being associated with Alaska Airlines Group.
