JetBlue has announced the addition of two new European routes, expanding its transatlantic network to a record 12 destinations. The airline will introduce flights from Boston to Edinburgh and Madrid, with both routes commencing on May 22, 2025. This expansion marks JetBlue's first venture into Southern Europe, as it previously held slots in Lisbon but did not utilize them.

The introduction of these routes follows JetBlue's decision to remove its JFK-London Gatwick service and reduce its planned JFK-Paris CDG flights to daily. The changes allow the airline to redirect resources to its new European destinations.

The Boston-Edinburgh route will be JetBlue's second connection to the Scottish capital, following the launch of services from New York JFK in May 2024. Delta also operates a seasonal service between Boston and Edinburgh using a Boeing 767-300ER. Unlike other transatlantic routes operated by JetBlue with the A321LR aircraft, this route will use the A321neo with more economy seating.

JetBlue's entry into Spain introduces competition on the Boston-Madrid route, which will see all operators utilizing Airbus A321 aircraft. JetBlue plans to use a high-premium 138-seat LR configuration, while Iberia will operate an 182-seat XLR variant. This development is notable for a long-haul market typically served by larger aircraft.

With these additions, JetBlue now offers seven European routes from Boston and five from New York JFK. Despite previous challenges in maintaining its European operations amid broader strategic shifts, the airline is poised for growth with its expanded network.

"Given JetBlue's well-documented woes...it was expected to decrease Europe's importance," yet these new links signal an intention to maintain a strong presence across the Atlantic.

The full list of JetBlue's current European routes includes:

- Boston-Amsterdam: daily (summer seasonal; returns March 30)

- Boston-CDG: daily (year-round)

- Boston-Dublin: daily (summer seasonal; back April 17)

- Boston-Edinburgh: daily (summer seasonal; begins May 22)

- Boston-Gatwick: daily (summer seasonal; resumes June 12)

- Boston-Heathrow: daily (year-round)

- Boston-Madrid: daily (summer seasonal; begins May 22)

- JFK-Amsterdam: daily (year-round)

- JFK-CDG: daily (year-round)

- JFK-Dublin: daily (summer seasonal; back April 17)

- JFK-Edinburgh: daily (summer seasonal; back May 22)

- JFK-Heathrow: double daily (year-round)

While Gatwick remains part of JetBlue's network, there is speculation about potential consolidation at Heathrow due to slot constraints and operational costs.
