Marriott International is expanding its presence in the outdoor travel market with two significant moves. The company announced plans to acquire Postcard Cabins, formerly known as Getaway Outposts, and integrate Trailborn boutique hotels into its system. These additions aim to enhance Marriott's offerings for travelers seeking nature-immersive experiences.

Leeny Oberg, Marriott's chief financial officer and executive vice president of development, stated, "Marriott has long been committed to offering incredible travel experiences for every trip purpose. As guests are increasingly interested in nature-immersive travel, we are excited to build on the incredible breadth of our portfolio and welcome the Postcard Cabins and Trailborn portfolios to Marriott Bonvoy as we deliver more accommodations and experiences in awe-inspiring destinations."

The move comes amid a trend where other hotel companies are also venturing into outdoor travel. Hilton recently partnered with AutoCamp, while Hyatt expanded into glamping through Under Canvas properties available on its Mr & Mrs Smith booking platform.

Marriott's acquisition will include tiny homes, cabins, and hotels located near national parks, deserts, ski areas, and shorelines. The 29 Postcard Cabins locations are within a two-hour drive from major metropolitan areas and offer dog-friendly accommodations with private bathrooms and kitchens. Trailborn's boutique hotels are situated near popular destinations such as Rocky Mountain National Park and the Grand Canyon.

Both brands will be integrated into Marriott's outdoor-focused collection next year through its website and mobile app. While details about their inclusion in the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program remain undisclosed, further information is expected soon.

Oberg added that the planned collection aims to provide "a broad array of options for seasoned adventurers and first-time explorers," whether they seek bespoke lodging near natural wonders or off-the-beaten-path excursions.
