Delta enhances onboard dining experience on JFK-ACC route

Delta Air Lines is enhancing its culinary offerings on the JFK-ACC route, catering to Ghanaian passengers by incorporating local flavors based on customer feedback. This initiative aligns with the holiday travel season and aims to provide a taste of home for travelers.

Delta collaborates with local chefs and catering stations in Ghana to ensure the authenticity of the meals served on board. "We design menus with Ghanian influence and some western touches for our customers," said Gabriel Palchik, Regional Manager, On Board Service & Menu Development. The airline considers passport and customer data when designing these menus.

In addition to culinary efforts, Delta emphasizes community engagement by incorporating local languages Twi and Ga in their service on this route. "We strive to offer thoughtful, elevated food and flight experiences our customers will remember forever," Palchik added.

The menu features entrees influenced by local preferences, including beef, chicken, and fish selections for direct flights between JFK and Ghana. The meal experience begins with salad, soup, an appetizer, and bread, followed by a main course and a choice of dessert—either an ice cream sundae or cheese cubes. Beverages such as coffee, tea, alcoholic drinks, including local beers, are also available.

Passengers in Delta One and Premium cabins have the option to select their main entrees before flying. Five choices are available for Delta One customers this winter season: roasted chicken thigh with moyo sauce; braised beef with domoda sauce; vegetable curry; grilled grouper with vanilla sauce; and braised lamb stew with thiou sauce.

Menu changes at Delta are informed by passenger feedback regarding requests for Ghanaian meals. In premium cabins, the entire menu changes every six months with smaller updates every three months. For Main Cabin passengers, menus are revised every six months using new strategies informed by crew comments and feedback from local sales teams.

The airline also accommodates special dietary requests from passengers who can select meals prior to their flight if they have specific needs such as religious restrictions or vegan preferences. "We put a lot of emphasis into designing menus that merge the local flavors of a particular country with the preferences of our passengers and crew," Palchik noted.
