Long Beach Airport is preparing for an increase in travelers during the holiday season from December 20, 2024, to January 1, 2025. The airport advises passengers to plan ahead and arrive early due to ongoing construction affecting drop-off and pick-up areas.

"Whether visiting friends and family or embarking on a seasonal getaway, Long Beach Airport can be trusted to get travelers where they need to go for the holidays," stated Mayor Rex Richardson.

The airport expects nearly 170,000 passengers during this period, marking a 12% increase from last year. This surge makes it one of the busiest holiday seasons on record for Long Beach Airport. On peak days such as December 20, December 26, and December 27, more than 13,000 travelers are expected daily.

Due to the Terminal Roadway Improvements Project, traffic lanes in key areas have been reduced. Passengers should anticipate increased congestion and allow extra time when traveling.

To address potential congestion issues, Barbara London Drive is available as an alternative pick-up and drop-off area. Additional staff will manage active loading zones during peak travel days. Furthermore, the Transportation Security Administration will open earlier at 4:30 a.m., from December 22 through January 4.

Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the completed roadway project aims to improve vehicular flow and accessibility features compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Details are available at www.LGBRoadImprovements.com.

"Even with ongoing construction, Long Beach Airport stands out for its welcoming atmosphere," said Airport Director Cynthia Guidry. "We thank our passengers for their patience as we make improvements that will make our Airport even more convenient and easy."

For smooth travel experiences, LGB suggests arriving early for flights and utilizing alternative routes like Barbara London Drive. Drivers picking up passengers should use free Cell Phone Waiting Lots until notified by their passenger's arrival on the curb. Parking options include Structures A and B along with valet service at Donald Douglas Drive.

Travelers should check airline baggage rules beforehand and pack appropriately per TSA guidelines found on their website. Those traveling with pets or service animals should verify airline policies in advance.

Long Beach Airport also offers temporary pickleball courts throughout the holidays along with live musical performances under its LGB Live! series every Friday and Sunday afternoon.

Located centrally between Los Angeles and Orange counties, Long Beach Airport offers services from major carriers like Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Hawaiian Airlines while providing a stress-free experience for travelers.
