Air Astana, the national airline of Kazakhstan, is set to expand its operations in Germany with a new route connecting Almaty International Airport to Frankfurt. Starting June 1, 2025, the airline will operate three weekly flights using Airbus A321LR aircraft. This addition marks Air Astana's third route to Germany, complementing existing services from Astana and Uralsk.

The new service aims to cater to both direct and transit passengers with convenient scheduling. Flights will depart Almaty at 01:30 and arrive in Frankfurt at 06:55. Return flights from Frankfurt will leave at 08:30 and reach Almaty by 18:55.

Germany holds significant importance for Air Astana's European network. The airline has been flying directly to Germany since 2003, maintaining a daily service from Astana using Boeing 767 aircraft and a weekly service from Uralsk with Airbus A320 family planes.

Air Astana will face competition on this route from Lufthansa, which also operates thrice-weekly flights between Frankfurt and Almaty using Airbus A330-300 widebodies.

The Air Astana Group, the largest airline group in Central Asia and the Caucasus, operates a fleet of 57 aircraft split between Air Astana and its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan. The group plans to expand its fleet to 80 aircraft by the end of 2028, supported by an agreement with Air Lease Corporation for seven additional Airbus A321LRs starting in 2026.

This winter season, Air Astana is operating a total of 40 international routes alongside domestic services. Its A321LR fleet serves various European destinations beyond Frankfurt, including Heraklion in Greece and Podgorica in Montenegro. Notably, it also operates one of the longest nonstop Airbus A321LR flights globally between Kazakhstan and London Heathrow.

In recent developments within its network expansion strategy, Air Astana launched flights to Phu Quoc in Vietnam from Almaty on October 28th and subsequently added services from Astana on December 3rd.
