A memorial stand has been installed at Baku Airport's Terminal 2 to honor the victims of Azerbaijan Airlines Flight J28243, which crashed recently, resulting in the death of 38 passengers and leaving many others critically injured. The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, declared a day of mourning across the nation, marked by a minute's silence at noon. People gathered at Heydar Aliyev International Airport to pay their respects.

Azerbaijan Airlines expressed their condolences in a statement: "We will never forget the beloved people we lost in the crash of the 'Embraer-190' aircraft. This loss left a deep wound in the heart of an entire community. It reminds us to be more compassionate and connected to one another."

The airline's president, Samir Rzayev, praised the flight crew for their efforts during the emergency situation that led to 29 survivors. Initial reports suggested a bird strike caused the incident; however, it was later revealed that Russian electronic weaponry disabled communication systems on board.

In cooperation with Azerbaijan Airlines and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, arrangements are being made to return the bodies of those who perished back to Azerbaijan. Injured passengers will also be transported if medically feasible.

Reports indicate that 27 individuals were hospitalized following the crash: 15 from Azerbaijan, eight from Russia, and three from Kyrgyzstan. Among them, 11 are in intensive care.

Speculation surrounds whether an anti-aircraft weapon struck the plane due to shrapnel-like damage observed on its tail. Insider sources have reportedly confirmed that a Russian surface-to-air missile hit the aircraft after mistaking it for a Ukrainian drone.

The intended destination was Kadyrov Grozny International Airport; however, due to denied access for an emergency landing at nearby Russian airports, it diverted towards Kazakhstan's Aktau Airport.
