The Airbus A321neo, known for its fuel efficiency and lower emissions, is a popular choice among US airlines. Several carriers in the United States operate this aircraft model, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue, Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and now Alaska Airlines.

Among these airlines, only American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Hawaiian Airlines are currently flying routes that exceed 2,700 miles with their A321neo aircraft. According to data from ch-aviation and Cirium analytics firm reports:

American Airlines has a fleet of 72 A321neos with an additional 98 on order. The airline operates several long-haul routes over 2,700 miles including Dallas/Fort Worth to Anchorage and multiple routes from Phoenix to various destinations in Hawaii such as Lihue and Honolulu. The longest route operated by American this month is the Dallas/Fort Worth to Anchorage flight at 3,042 miles.

Delta Air Lines began operating the A321neo in May 2022 and has since expanded its fleet to include 68 aircraft with more on order. Delta's longest A321neo route is Seattle to Miami which was inaugurated recently on December 19th. Senior Vice President of Network Planning Joe Esposito commented on Delta’s expansion strategy: “Over the past decade...we’re providing more choices and seamless connections to sought-after destinations.”

Hawaiian Airlines operates a smaller fleet of 18 A321neos primarily used for domestic flights within the US. The airline flies from Honolulu to Salt Lake City International Airport using this model but has switched some operations back to larger aircraft like the Airbus A330-200.

In addition to domestic flights exceeding 2,700 miles within the US operated by these airlines with their A321neos, there are also international routes covered by other carriers such as SAS and JetBlue which extend beyond this distance.

SAS operates several transatlantic flights including Copenhagen to Washington D.C., Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) to New York JFK airport covering significant distances up to over 4 thousand miles using their A321neos.

JetBlue utilizes its long-range variant (A321LR) for flights like JFK-Amsterdam or Paris CDG which have been well-received due partly due pricing benefits mentioned by then-CEO Robin Hayes: “JetBlue’s transatlantic service has proven...to lower fares.”

These developments reflect growing trends among major airlines optimizing their fleets towards efficient single-aisle jets capable of serving longer distances effectively while meeting market demands across both domestic & international sectors efficiently utilizing advanced models like Airbus’ Neo series.
