Silver Airways, a regional airline based in Hollywood, Florida, has announced that it will continue operations after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. The airline, which serves Florida and the Caribbean, plans to secure new capital and restructure its debt through the bankruptcy process. Silver Airways aims to emerge from bankruptcy in the first quarter of 2025 as a more competitive entity.

The airline assured customers that all existing bookings remain valid and that there will be no disruptions to services. This includes bookings made through partners JetBlue Airways and United Airlines.

The aviation industry continues to face challenges post-pandemic. Although travel demand has surged, costs have risen significantly. Spirit Airlines, another low-cost carrier, filed for bankruptcy protection in November due to financial pressures.

Silver Airways disclosed in court filings that it owes nearly $4.5 million to aircraft lessor Azorra and $2.1 million to the Internal Revenue Service for unpaid taxes or fees. The airline also lists outstanding debts at several airports, including Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Orlando International Airport (MCO), and San Juan's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU).

Efforts by Silver Airways to expand beyond Florida and the Caribbean have been unsuccessful. In March, it ceased operations at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) in Georgia and Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) in South Carolina.

Currently, Silver Airways operates flights to 22 destinations primarily from Fort Lauderdale and San Juan using a fleet of ATR turboprops. Its subsidiary Seaborne Airlines operates Twin Otter seaplanes between St. Thomas and St. Croix.
