Jet2 will retire its last Boeing 757 aircraft on January 5, marking the end of an era for the UK airline as it shifts focus to Airbus A321neos. This move concludes nearly 42 years of UK passenger operations with the Boeing 757, which first entered service with British Airways in February 1983.

The retirement follows Icelandair's recent decision to phase out its two Boeing 757-300s, which have since been relocated to Uzbekistan. The UK's last scheduled passenger flight using a Boeing 747 occurred on December 25, 2024, when Korean Air transitioned back to the Boeing 777-300ER.

On January 2, Flightradar24 reported that Jet2's G-LSAE departed Manchester for St. Athan for reclamation purposes. This leaves Jet2 with only two remaining Boeing 757-200s. These aircraft average an age of over 32 years, significantly older than Jet2's overall fleet.

G-LSAI was originally delivered to CAAC in 1987 and later operated by China Southern before joining Jet2 in 2006. It served destinations such as Alicante, Geneva, and Prague from Manchester in December 2024. G-LSAK began service with American Trans Air (ATA) in 1996 and joined Jet2 in 2010 after a period with RAK Airways. Its destinations included Alicante, Antalya, Lanzarote, and Tenerife South.

Lynn Chatburn, Operations Controller at Jet2, indicated that G-LSAI is expected to perform the final roundtrip service. This aircraft is notable for being the oldest active airline passenger Boeing 757 globally.

The final commercial flights are scheduled for January 5: LS811 from Manchester to Geneva departing at 06:55 and LS812 returning from Geneva at 11:00.

Jonathan Hinkles shared insights on LinkedIn about the impact of the Boeing 757 on UK aviation: "The Civil Aviation Authority’s detailed records show that since its introduction on February 9,1983 by British Airways," he said. "471 million passengers have boarded a UK-operated Boeing," accumulating "8.1 million flight hours."

As foreign operators continue limited services with the type in the UK—namely Icelandair and United Airlines—passenger flights will occur between Newark and Edinburgh; Keflavik and Glasgow; London Gatwick; London Heathrow; Manchester; and Washington Dulles to Edinburgh.
