Global air travel has experienced a significant rise in recent years, with the Asia-Pacific region seeing a notable increase in regional travel since 2022. The busiest international airline route for 2024 was between Hong Kong (HKG) and Taipei (TPE), offering 6.8 million seats, marking a two-place rise from the previous year. This route last held the top position in 2019, and despite a 48% growth since 2023, it remains about 15% lower than its pre-pandemic numbers.

Several major airlines operate this route, including Cathay Pacific, Eva Air, and China Airlines. In January alone, Cathay Pacific will conduct 760 round-trip flights using various aircraft such as the A321neo and B777-300. "Cathay Pacific operates up to 14 daily one-way flights," providing nearly 129 million Available Seat Miles (ASMs).

Eva Air offers 470 round-trip flights on this route with a fleet that includes the A321 and B787-10 Dreamliner. The airline provides over 62 million ASMs in January. "Eva Air operates up to 13 daily one-way flights."

China Airlines will conduct 434 round-trip flights using aircraft like the A321neo and B737-800. "The airline flies its fleet of Boeing 737-800, Airbus A321neos, and A330-300s on this route." They offer over 40 million ASMs for January.

Other airlines like Hong Kong Express and Hong Kong Airlines also contribute significantly to this busy route with their respective fleets of Airbus aircraft. Starlux Airlines and Greater Bay Airlines complete the lineup of carriers operating between these two cities.

Hong Kong Express plans to run up to four daily one-way flights in January with an offering of over 25 million ASMs. Meanwhile, Hong Kong Airlines will operate ten daily one-way flights amounting to nearly 28 million ASMs.

Starlux Airlines will offer a total of over 15 million ASMs through its operations in January. Finally, Greater Bay Airlines provides nearly 12 million ASMs with its Boeing fleet on this busy corridor.

The increased activity on this route reflects broader trends within global aviation as it continues to recover from past disruptions while adapting to new demands from travelers across Asia-Pacific.
