Arajet, a low-cost airline based in the Dominican Republic, is planning to expand its services into the United States this summer. The airline flew over one million passengers last year across 16 countries from its two bases in the Dominican Republic. Arajet aims to establish a hub in the region by launching flights to three U.S. destinations.

The carrier operates a hub-and-spoke model from its hubs at Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). Arajet began operations in September 2022 with a Boeing 737 MAX fleet and opened its second base at PUJ in October 2024. Currently, it offers direct flights to 23 destinations across North, Central, and South America.

Arajet has expressed interest in starting flights to the United States despite facing objections from several stakeholders. With recent approval of its Open Skies agreement, Arajet CEO and Founder Victor Pacheco confirmed plans to launch flights to New York City, Miami, and Puerto Rico. "This is an important milestone and we are excited to officially launch in the United States next year," said Pacheco.

He added that these routes would enhance travel opportunities between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic: "These routes will open more travel to the U.S., a very important market for the Dominican Republic, and our low-fare flights will provide new opportunities to grow tourism and business."

While details about specific airports have not been finalized, there are considerations for using Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) as an alternative for Miami-bound flights. In Puerto Rico, San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) is expected to be a key location due to its status as the largest airport in the Caribbean.

Arajet's expansion into U.S. markets aligns with their strategy of increasing connectivity between North-South American regions through their hubs in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana.
