Delta Air Lines, one of the largest carriers globally, faced significant disruptions due to a major snowstorm at its main hub, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The storm forced the airline to cancel approximately 1,100 flights on Friday. Delta is working to restore standard operations and minimize impacts on other customers.

The winter storm affected the southeastern United States, causing delays and cancellations in Atlanta. Delta advised passengers to arrive three hours before their flight's scheduled departure time due to extended security wait times. As of Saturday noon, around 375 flights had been canceled between Delta's mainline operations and Delta Connection flights.

In response to the disruptions, Delta is waiving checked baggage fees through Saturday for passengers traveling on Delta-operated flights. However, this waiver does not apply to flights departing from Amsterdam due to ground handling by KLM. Refunds will be issued for customers who have already paid for their bags.

A travel waiver remains in place for select destinations across the Southeast United States, providing customers with enhanced flexibility to cancel or change their flights. If a flight delay causes a missed connection, Delta will rebook travelers on the next available service.

Delta offers several options for customers facing significant delays. Passengers can use the Fly Delta app or visit the website to adjust their itineraries themselves. Domestic passengers experiencing delays longer than three hours can receive a full refund if they choose not to fly. The same applies if a flight is canceled and they opt not to rebook.

For those not immediately rebooked after a cancellation, Delta encourages contacting customer service either at the airport or via messaging. If an itinerary is partially flown but cannot be completed, refunds will be issued for unused portions of the trip.

Atlanta remains crucial for Delta's operations as it plans its busiest year yet from this hub. Disruptions in Atlanta can affect the entire network and its partners through SkyTeam alliance members like KLM, Air France, and Aeromexico. Restoring operations in Atlanta will help enhance reliability across Delta's network as it aims to return quickly to standard operations.
