Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) remains a crucial hub for domestic flights in Florida, particularly for low-cost and ultra-low-cost carriers. The airport's largest airline, Spirit Airlines, accounts for over 30% of the traffic according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. JetBlue follows with around 18%, while Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines each carry about 14% of passengers, with United Airlines at 8%.

Despite being in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Spirit Airlines maintains Fort Lauderdale as a vital market and uses it as a gateway to Latin America. Its headquarters are close to the airport, further emphasizing its importance.

Fort Lauderdale's longest domestic routes cover significant distances across the United States. Delta Air Lines operates one of these long routes from Fort Lauderdale to Salt Lake City, offering 31 monthly frequencies with over 12,000 seats available both ways. The route serves as an essential connection between Delta’s network and the western U.S.

Another notable route is from Fort Lauderdale to Las Vegas' Harry Reid International Airport, operated by five airlines including Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Spirit Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines. Despite having limited service from United on this route, JetBlue leads with the most frequencies.

The San Diego International Airport route is less competitive but still served by Alaska Airlines and JetBlue. Alaska offers more seats compared to JetBlue's smaller schedule.

Los Angeles International Airport sees direct connections from Fort Lauderdale through Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and JetBlue. Here too, JetBlue provides significantly more flights than its competitors.

For flights to San Francisco International Airport (SFO), three airlines—Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, and United—offer services. Notably, SFO is a critical hub for United Airlines.

Alaska Airlines dominates the route between Fort Lauderdale and Portland International Airport due to Portland being one of its hubs. Only nine flights operate monthly on this route.

Finally, the longest domestic service from Fort Lauderdale reaches Seattle Tacoma International Airport. This service is operated by both Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines amidst ongoing competition in Seattle’s aviation market.

The dynamics at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International highlight significant competition among airlines on various routes across the country.
