Southern Airways Express, a commuter airline based in Palm Beach, Florida, is the largest of its kind in the United States. Established in 2013, it serves nearly 40 domestic destinations across five time zones. The airline's operations are supported by the United States Department of Transportation (DoT) through the Essential Air Service program, which subsidizes many of its routes to smaller communities.

The airline operates over 30 aircraft including models such as the Cessna Caravan and Grand Caravan, King Air Super 200, and Cessna Bravo. Southern Airways Express adheres to a customer-focused philosophy encapsulated in their mantra: “Every Passenger, Every Day, on Every Flight.” Each year, they transport hundreds of thousands of passengers on more than 200 daily departures under both its own brand and Mokulele Airlines.

In recent years, Southern Airways has expanded significantly after acquiring Mokulele Airlines in 2019. Both airlines are now subsidiaries of Surf Air Mobility following Southern's acquisition by Surf Air in 2023. The company maintains interline partnerships with major carriers like American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and United Airlines.

"Founded in 2013," states Southern Airways Express, "Southern has seen tremendous growth thanks to our commitment to the individual passenger." This commitment remains central to their operations as they continue expanding services across various regions from Pennsylvania to Honolulu.

Mokulele Airlines was founded by Rebecca “Kawehi” Inaba in 1994 and became part of Southern Airways Express' portfolio after six ownership changes over 25 years. Together with Mokulele Airlines' operations in Hawaii using Saab 340 aircraft since 2022, Southern continues to be a significant player among inter-island carriers.

Additionally, Southern plans to introduce hybrid-electric aircraft into its Hawaiian network through a partnership with AmpAire. This move aligns with their goal of enhancing service efficiency while maintaining environmental responsibility.

Southern Airways Express shifted its eastern hub from Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in June 2021. They currently operate up to 220 departures daily with more than half occurring within Hawaii.

Textron Aviation describes the Cessna Caravan as "known for its rugged utility and flexibility," making it suitable for Southern's varied routes due to its high performance and low operating costs.
