Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has collaborated with the Society of Wilderness (SoW) to address water resource issues in Taiwan. As part of this effort, FedEx organized a riverside cleanup along the Touchian River in Hsinchu, involving team members and their families. The cleanup resulted in the removal of nearly 181 kilograms of waste.

The Touchian River is crucial for the Greater Hsinchu area, supplying over 90% of local water needs and supporting various sectors, including agriculture and high-tech industries at the Hsinchu Science Park. Taiwan's high-tech sector relies heavily on electronic components, which were its largest export in 2023.

Michael Chu, managing director of FedEx Taiwan, stated: “FedEx is committed to fostering sustainable development in the communities we serve and supporting local environmental conservation efforts.” He emphasized the significance of the Touchian River for the region and highlighted FedEx's dedication to corporate social responsibility.

Liu Yueh-Mei, Honorary Chairperson of SoW, remarked: “A clean river is the key to a blue sea.” She noted that plastic bottles, bags, and disposable utensils were common debris found during cleanup events. Liu stressed reducing plastic usage and preventing trash dumping into waterways to maintain their cleanliness.

In addition to two cleanup events held in December 2024, FedEx also organized an environmental education seminar titled "For Blue Seas, Start with Clean Streams." This initiative aimed to educate participants about Taiwan’s aquatic environments and encourage sustainable practices among team members by reducing disposable plastic use.

FedEx continues to support sustainability by collaborating with local NGOs like SoW to promote environmental conservation efforts.
